Successful kick-off: Greenovation Summit showcases sustainable strategies of Eastern Swiss SMEs
On September 12, 2024, representatives from business and science met at the Cubic of Bühler AG in Uzwil for the first Greenovation Summit. Around 150 participants gained practical insights into how local companies in Eastern Switzerland are implementing sustainability in their business models and what challenges still exist.

The event, moderated by Mona Vetsch, offered participants a unique insight into the innovations of SMEs in Eastern Switzerland that are dedicated to the topic of sustainability. In his welcoming address, host Stefan Scheiber, CEO of Bühler, emphasized the often underestimated innovative strength of the region. In their presentations, 13 speakers presented concrete projects on how sustainability is being implemented in various sectors.
Sandra Banholzer, CEO of cosmetics manufacturer Rausch, explained the challenges of developing sustainable packaging solutions and pointed out that consumers now expect sustainability but are not prepared to pay more for it. Similar challenges were highlighted by Claude Rieser, CEO of Step Zero, whose team is working on recyclable shoe soles.
A special moment at the summit was the presentation of the first Greenovation Awards, which went to three companies for outstanding achievements in the areas of projects, products and services. These awards recognize innovations that combine both ecological and economic efficiency.
