For more female power in construction
The education center of the Swiss construction industry, Campus Sursee, is initiating a new event format: "We build on women." On February 1 and 2, 2024, the event will put women from the construction industry in the spotlight and bring together business personalities to discuss the current challenges and opportunities for women in the world of work.
The construction industry is known to be an important economic factor in Switzerland. The career opportunities are diverse. However, there is an increasing shortage of skilled workers. The construction industry is therefore doing a lot to promote career changers and sees enormous potential in women in particular. But how can women be inspired to join the construction industry? The best way is through role models. To this end, the best stories of heroines and heroes were sought (entries were open until November 30, 2023). These will be chosen at the two-day event.
From the advancement of women to new working time models
But it is also about the exchange of ideas, according to the initiators. Inspiration is also provided by 40 new working models that are presented. In an exclusive interview, Andrea Ming, Director of Campus Sursee, provides more in-depth insights: the aim is to promote the valuable contribution of and with women in the (construction) industry and to combat the shortage of skilled workers. Infra Suisse, as a cooperation partner, has developed a guide to balancing work and private life in order to increase the attractiveness of companies in infrastructure construction. The target group for the event is men in key positions in construction companies. After all, they are still the ones who most often decide on the recruitment and employment of women. On the other hand, the aim is also to address decision-makers in the economy in general, as Andrea Ming emphasizes. Because in today's world, they are all affected by the topic of the conference.
Diverse program
The event, enriched with a dynamic supporting program, offers participants a wide range of activities. From top-class presentations, excellent cuisine and plenty of space for networking to relaxing sports sessions, there is something for everyone. For example, the aperitif will take place on the crane and construction machinery training grounds. "Those who take part in the event will experience the Sursee campus and hopefully be inspired. Education plays a very important role here. On the one hand, we will be talking at the event about possible career moves into the construction industry and, on the other, we want to have a positive influence on the image of the construction industry in society," says Andrea Ming in an interview with the industry magazine "die baustellen". Speakers include Lynn Burkhard and Beat Müller, Co-Managing Director of construction company Stutz AG, as well as recruitment expert Jörg Buckmann, economic and political consultant Sonja A. Buholzer and Heinz Karrer, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jungfraubahn Holding AG.
The beginning of a movement
The organizers also emphasize that "We build on women" is not just an event, but a movement. A prosperous future and thus a desirable working world is only possible if men and women work together, according to the conviction. Campus Sursee thus wants to send a clear message that the construction industry is ready to utilize the previously untapped potential of women and give them the stage they deserve.
