Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts: Master in Business Psychology
The Lucerne School of Business will offer a Master of Science in Business Psychology starting in fall 2024. Bachelor graduates in Business Psychology will thus have the opportunity to continue their studies in the heart of Central Switzerland.
With the Bachelor's program in Business Psychology launched in 2019, the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) struck a chord with students. Enrollment numbers are consistently high, with around 230 students per semester. Because of this great demand and to offer the numerous graduates a suitable follow-up opportunity in Central Switzerland, the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts is now expanding its offering to include a Master's program. The HSLU Concordat Council approved the introduction of a Master of Science in Business Psychology at its meeting on September 29, 2023. It is scheduled to start in the fall of 2024. "We are very pleased to be able to accompany our students to the master's degree in the future," says Prof. Dr. Martin Gubler, Vice Director of Education at the Lucerne School of Business. This will train urgently needed, specialized professionals, both for the Central Swiss and the national labor market.
The master's degree entitles graduates to the official professional title of business psychologist. This enables them to work as experts in specialized functions, for example in the field of personnel development, health promotion, in market research or in innovation management. They deal with the behavior of people in the workplace and in organizations, and as customers in the marketplace. Current topics and questions include, for example, what influence New Work has on productivity, collaboration and well-being, what psychological factors promote more sustainable consumer behavior, or how companies can retain talented employees in the long term.
Psychology combined with business and data science
As is usual for the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, a lot of emphasis is placed on practical relevance: Already during their education, students deal with current problems from companies. In terms of content, the program is seamlessly linked to the existing bachelor's program and also includes two specializations: Market and Consumer Psychology and Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Elements from the master's programs in Business Administration and Applied Information and Data Science will also be incorporated. "Students will acquire networked knowledge from applied psychology, business administration and the field of data science. This is an unusual and promising combination that opens up a wide range of professional fields after graduation," says Martin Gubler.
